Description
Adhesive layer for photographic films with polyester backing The invention relates to photographic films having a new subbing layer for anchoring the emulsion layer on a polyester pad.
There are various synthetic resins such. B. copolymers of vinylidene chloride, aromatic polyesters of certain molecular weight or polyvinyl acetates have been proposed. More recently, it has been possible to achieve a significant improvement in the adhesion to the polyester base using a method that is comparable to the saponification of triacetate. According to German patent specification 1019 909, the film is treated with a chlorosulfonic acid solution, as a result of which sulfochloride groups are incorporated into the polyethylene terephthalate molecules on the film surface. The use of chlorosulfonic acid now always requires corrosion-resistant equipment, and special precautionary measures must be taken when carrying out the process because of its harmful effects on health.
It has now been found that, while eliminating the above-mentioned disadvantages, an excellent adhesive effect can also be achieved if the film base made of polyethylene terephthalate is coated with a layer of chlorosulfonated polyethylene. The chlorosulfonated polyethylene corresponds roughly to the general formula: and is obtained by reacting chlorine and chlorosulfonic acid with polyethylene.
The chlorosulfonated polyethylene is z. B. in toluene and xylene well soluble and is preferably made from a 5 to 200% solution for subbing applied to the film base according to the usual process technology. After this Evaporation of the solvent creates a second layer that acts as a gelatin binder and containing nitrocellulose. Thereafter, a photosensitive halide silver emulsion layer is made applied and dried. That. photographic material is characterized by good Dry and wet adhesion.
