X Resources for configuration are indeed a bonus: if I ssh to another computer on the network and alunch xterm/rxvt it will be configured just like any other on my display. No extra configuration needed.

How true. I despair of both gnome and kde in that they completely ignore the network transparency of X. It's a huge step backwards.
