not possible to install both OpenSSL and LibreSSL on the same system
Because they have the same soname presumably. There are certainly ways around that if someone really wanted to install both. We have the source code. We also have lots of ways to coax linkers into doing things that upstream didn't anticipate. However, I'd rather have my system use neither than both on balance.
