Yeah, I'd like to know how the versioned shim, when open-sourced, isn't going to enable a generic free-software shim. Any hint?

(I say this as someone who's an utter fan of magic numbers for -- eg hashes of -- published interfaces, mostly because any magic number and its compatible interface should be interchangeable with anything else which meets the interface and has the magic number. I don't see how that can't work here -- help me out?)
