The main reason why exFAT is interesting for digital cameras is not the fact that it allows larger file systems but that it allows larger files. This doesn't really matter if all you want to store are teensy 48-MB pictures, but if you're shooting video then the fact that the maximum supported file size on FAT32 is 4 GiB becomes a nuisance, especially now that 4K video (or even higher) is mainstream on consumer devices. ExFAT bumps the maximum file size up into the pebibyte range, which is likely to remain theoretical for a while.
