Also, a larger number of people just don't understand that Linux won't accept patented/FRAND term technologies. There are too many gray hairs and not enough young guys who attend the IETF....

Who cares what "Linux" will or won't accept? Ship it as yet another binary blob used by your Linux-based router/appliance/whatever. You won't have to worry, as nobody [that matters] will ever hold you to the GPL's "complete corresponding source code" obligations.

I don't think it's a generation gap, Jim, but a cultural gap that crosses generations.

Yes, there is a cultural gap with those who haven't dealt with FOSS. It isn't just an age issue.

But there is some correlation with age; UNIX was not FOSS, and I see correlation with gray hairs (of which I have more than a few). If my career had wandered off into other directions, I would not have the perspective I have.

And I've spend years working in the IETF, for better or worse.
