it's amazing how threatened systemd advocates are by people who don't use systemd.

I think part of it is that some people who work with or on systemd are upset by FUD that is being spread by some people, and there might be perceived overlap with folks who are running efforts like Devuan. So they don't object to a distro that chooses to exclude systemd per-se, but they do object to people spreading FUD.
