I'm still using a TV set I bought 19 years ago. There is also a VCR from the same period I start occasionally for old tapes. Nowadays consumer gadgets of this sort are often controlled by an embedded processor running Linux. It is possible that even some devices taken into use today will be affected by the problem. Better hurry with the fix to avoid Linux turning into a swear word in the living rooms of year 2038.

Swear word in the living room is minor issue. In 2000 I've personally encountered piece of of health diagnosis hardware which refuses to communicate with outside world because of Y2K problem (thankfully it still functioned standalone thus people just retyped the numbers of keyboard which was not all that efficient, but worked). And these things are often used for a much longer time then mere TV or VCR.
