The client side stuff is fine. It's the privileged rendering pieces (setuid this, kernel modules that) which are root kit fodder and that I'd never put on a network accessible server. Security--least privilege, safe and prudent memory manipulation, etc--is the last thing the guy writing OpenGL optimizations is thinking about.

It's the same reason WebGL is becoming exploit city.
