Why? It's not needed with GDB, why it's requirement for your debugger?
Everyone here looks obsessed with "inefficient" handling of text (and such) in Wayland. But can you, please, answer why you need to run all these programs on your remote system? Why can't you use some application-specific protocol to communicate with server component?
It'll be more efficient then any GUI remote access protocol.
I think I know the answer: today you get what you need for free. The fact that X is inefficient in local case (direct-to-GPU rendering is obviously more efficient then what you do with Xlib today), it's inefficient for remote case (application-specific protocol will be obviously more efficient), but you get what you want for free. Everyone else is paying. Why do you think it's fair? If you need remote access then you need to pay for it - it's as simple as that. You can pay for developers and ask them to add remote protocol, or you can pay with your time add it yourself, but the idea that everyone else must suffer for your sake is just ridiculous.
I, for one, don't use VNX, X networking, or anything like that, but I use plenty of remote protocols (like aforementioned remote GDB capabilities). SSH is enough to start what I need (especially if you combine it with screen or tmux) and that's it.
