This question is unrelated (sorry) but it might meet the right public here.

Is UEFI just "Not Invented Here" considering that OpenFirmware (and others?) apparently offered the same features decades earlier?

Yes, OpenFirmware seemed to be not only much earlier but more elegant, and an open standard.
