We could, but it needs a 2:1 majority according to Constitution 4.1.3, but
the Technical Comitte has to agree with a 2:1 majority as well.

80% of the 5000 people in this poll wanted the buttons moved back. That was before the close button was moved to the edge so I don't know if that would change the numbers.

It's good to do experiments with the UI but it would have been better to do it early on in the beta period instead of on actual users.

It seems like everyone recognizes that moving the buttons was a step backwards, but we've been told that later on we'll take two steps forward later. It would be easier to evaluate that if we could do the two steps forward right now instead of waiting six months.

To me, it's a crazy thing what Ubuntu has done here. Instead of talking about all the other things which have changed and improved people are just talking about the buttons.

Anyway, the button change doesn't even affect me and what do I know...

(BTW. The reason it doesn't affect me is not because I don't use Ubuntu, it's because I know how to fix it and didn't want to be told again).

I still think Ubuntu is awesome. That's another difference, is that the complaints about SVN are from people who want it to die and the complaints about Ubuntu are from people who want it be to be great.

Important point - if you use any of the old themes, such as Human, the
buttons will stay on the right. The buttons are moved to the left *only* in
the new themes Ambiance and Radiance.

There was a bug initially that made the buttons jump for all themes, but it
has since been fixed.

With that in mind, I am glad about the feature as it gives people this
option, even if I personally do not like it at all.

The fact that Mark decides what goes into Ubuntu is one of the main
features of Ubuntu from the very start. He decided to put some naked ladies
on the desktop backgrounds in the early version, just because he likes
them. If you want to get more involved in the creation of your Linux distro
- go to Debian. If you want the defaults pre-selected for you by one person
and thus form a uniform and coherent whole - go to Ubuntu.
