Linux 3.0?

I saw one comment brush in the neighbourhood of my thoughts - I agree there is value in just basic memory management and build time, particularly on smaller footprints, to stripping out older unsupported and (with only a few exceptions) unused code. But if that is done, as that does reflect a change in the effective functionality of the kernel, a clear break in the kernel numbering practise should be included for those that actually rely still on the old architectures being retired. The remaining ISA users continue with the 2.6 kernels, the rest of us moving to the opportunities extended by code that can be planned without having to work around the limited services available from the ISA bus.
