It's distressing to read Jonathan buy into the "real work" BS.  Code 
cleanup *is* real work.  I would argue it's more important than feature 
work.  The more you stabilize your base, the easier it is to add new 
features.

Far too many programmers dismiss the contributions of those who work 
tirelessly to clean up our messes.
