Artificial Intelligence in Education: Ethical Implications and Future Directions

Participating journal: AI and Ethics

This topical collection aims to gather research that will explore AI effect on teaching and learning. This includes examining how AI technologies effect educators. Another critical objective of this collection is to promote equity and accessibility in education, including examining AI solutions on the promise of bridging educational disparities examining algorithmic bias and fairness, and investigating how AI solutions are designed and implemented to create inclusive learning environments while ensuring fair and unbiased educational outcomes for all students.

The scope of this topical collection will focus on enhancing teaching and learning, equity and accessibility, ethical and privacy considerations, teacher roles and professional development, and policy development and implementation.

The overall objective of this topical collection is to promote a dialogue between students, researchers, educators, policymakers, and technologists when it comes to incorporating AI in the classroom and all facets of the educational ecosystem.

    Dr. Larry Medsker

    Dr. Larry Medsker is presently Chair of the ACM US Technology Policy Committee, Research Professor of Physics at University of Vermont (UVM) and at George Washington University. He is also Founding Director of the George Washington University Master’s Program in Data Science. Medsker serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of AI and Ethics, Associate Editor of Neural Computing and Applications, and Policy Officer for ACM’s Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (SIGAI).
