| 26 days ago | mod | Removed Comment I’m just saying dysphoria is clearly a mental illness. I’m not saying it should be condemned, but that it should be treated early by a psychiatrist and psychologist. I don’t think it’s healthy at all, or even ethical, to encourage someone who’s clearly ill to go ahead and do something they might regret later. I’m not saying I’m right; that’s just my two cents on it. I’m not even that in line with my own masculinity myself. by pulweizer@lemmy.world reason: transphobia |

| 6 months ago | mod | Removed Comment Well yes, but the solution to this problem is for there to be standard levels in the bloodwork not just for males and females but for males and females either on or off hormonal supplements of either sex-specific group - six categories total, if we ignore that progesterone can be taken without estrogen and vice-versa. It's not something the poor unpaid intern who designed that website has any power over. And that still has nothing to do with the patient's gender, as there are reasons other than being trans for taking hormones and there are trans people who don't undergo HRT. by Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.worksreason: Transphobia apologism |
| 6 months ago | mod | Removed Comment The medical reasons are not entirely amorphous. There *are* biological differences to take into account, the most obvious being whether a person is capable of becoming pregnant. There are certain warnings and considerations that the pharmacy may be required to inform someone of *if they are physically capable* of becoming pregnant. Might be corporate policy, might be because of state laws (especially if you're in a slave state). Demographic information can be used to ensure that different groups of people are treated fairly.
Companies take actions that they think will maximize profit. Yes, they will trample all over anyone in that process, but it will be *for profit,* and not for anything else - malice included - in the absence of maximizing profit. Point being: they may be hamfisted about it, but that's about it. by Triumph@fedia.ioreason: Transphobia apologism |

| 6 months ago | mod | Removed Comment Pregnancy is a good example. Makes are unlikely to have ovarian or uterine cancer. Females are unlikely to have prostate cancer. Some diseases are far more likely in males than females and vice versa. Stores like Walgreens like to provide a holistic approach to healthcare. I'm all for identifying however you want biology masters in healthcare. It's not discrimination. by Maple Engineer@lemmy.worldreason: Transphobia apologism |
| 6 months ago | mod | Removed Comment Males and females have different healthcare needs. When you're seeking medical care your sex may affect that care. by Maple Engineer@lemmy.worldreason: Transphobia apologism |
| 6 months ago | mod | Removed Comment That's just the single most obvious out of dozens of differences. Do you prefer fifty checkboxes or one dropdown list?
Here's a better way to look at this: medication cares about your biology. That means sex. Gender does not factor in. So they're asking your sex. Why would they need to know your gender? Wouldn't asking that be invasive, like asking your political affiliation or your hobbies or your religion or literally anything else that does not impact your purchase and use of medicine? by Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.worksreason: Transphobia |

| 1 year ago | mod | Removed Comment Oh really? Thank you. I dunno, I like the attention and closeness of a woman. I also like when women are pretty, popular and have common interests. However, I tend to like women less when they’re clingy, mentally ill, autistic (i just don’t like their behaviors, I respect them though) or lesbians (Can’t relate to lesbians because women HAVE to like men in order for us to be close.)
A great deal of my interests are hot men. I can easily name men I like but not women or other genders. Neither sexually not romantically nor any way. by CatDemons4@lemmings.world reason: Ableism |

| 1 year ago | mod | Removed Comment It's very noble to give someone the benefit of the doubt and support them despite the wrongs they've done or are currently doing. I applaud you for the amount of compassion you must have.
However, I think everyone should have the choice on whether they want to be supportive towards someone, as the emotional energy required for that is a very limited resource, especially in us mentally ill and neurodivergent folks.
My criteria for having that choice are not met when people either don't have the full story, or are pressured into compassion due to being confronted with an issue they are particularly empathetic towards or have experienced themselves. Both of these issues are at play here, which is why I feel it's manipulative.
I know getting sympathy and support feels good, but chronically farming it off of people who feel an internal pressure of providing it really bothers me, as it does not feel like full informed consent can be secured. by buttonmash@lemmy.worldreason: Other peoples pronouns aren't something you get to choose |
