Removed Comment So few people mask that there is little point in doing it. If you have a specific reason thats one thing. I would mask then come home to my family not masking effectivly undoing all my efforts. I was masking for way longer than most and I gave up being the only person at the hospital I was working at masking. Like, it was just painful you know? I still miss it. Removed Comment If an overwhelming super majority of my community doesn't want to mask who am I to tell them they are wrong? When COVID was a pandemic I was right there with you, it's an imperative to mask but the chuds won. Not only is COVID endemic now but other previously eradicated diseases are making a comeback. This is beyond masking and beyond COVID now. This is about the shredded social contract in our society. People don't trust a medical system that has been captured by monied interests at every level. Until we fix our broken healthcare system and restore the publics trust there is no point dying on the hill that is masking We're not changing minds in favor of masking in fact it's the opposite, fewer and fewer people care, and the others are getting more and more irate the more we insist. Personally I've given up, it's just not worth fixating on when our broken for profit healthcare system and captured regulatory bodies are creating disfiguring and lethal outcomes for the poor, sick, elderly, and infants across the board. Not masking is a drop in the bucket compared to all the other ways we are ruining/wasting human potential. Making a losing argument in favor of masking is just going to make people stop listening to me. Full disclosure I got first wave covid in early March 2020 and I've been disabled by long COVID. I have serious health problems and take fistfuls of pills. I have mobility problems from nerve damage, IBS, have trouble breathing all day and all night, cognitive problems, memory problems, like I got fucked up beyond belief. I'm not acting flippantly about the disease because I don't care. I got wrecked in the American South and suffered at the hands of the disease and then suffered again at the hand of a broken and uncaring medical system. My opinion is that broken medical system is the bigger problem and until we fix the uncaring and broken medical system no one is going to give a fuck about the disease. Removed Comment I've definitely seen folks who went full denialist. But there were plenty of people (without regard to politics, in my experience) who went hard the other way and fully adopted quarantine mentality. COVID was (arguably still is) a menace. But for folks with social anxiety, it became the perfect excuse to do what they were going to do anyway. This guy's wife clearly didn't want to live in a cave for the rest of her life. But, idk. Removed Comment I've just been following the CDC guidelines and masking when I'm sick or might be sick. Nobody in my family and nobody I'm close to has any immune issues and covid levels are still pretty low where I live so I think I'm safe. At least for now. Removed Comment Ok, I could have been clearer. Blame the long covid. You should be wearing N95/KN94 masks whenever you are outside of that closed alone room, especially when you can't keep a 6' gap from others, washing your hands and using 70% ethanol hand sanitiser, and not touching all the things all the time. These are effective and backed by science. Additional measures such as blocking the gap under your door and buying air purifiers for your closed apartment where you remain alone are worthless additions to that routine. by s3p5r@lemm.ee
