| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment I think it was fairly important to show how little Motoko cared about her body as it was just an object to her that she swapped in and out of. She was completely desensitized and disconnected from it. Her not caring whatsoever about being nude actually contributes to the themes of the film and her transition away from humanity.
The movie literally beats you over the head with this by showing shots of mannequins, lots of them. That’s what her body is, a mannequin not a person. Would you get offended at a “naked” mannequin?
There’s a lot of biblical Genesis themes in the film, and the first thing that happens when humanity eats the fruit of knowledge and transcends from beast to mankind is that they become ashamed of their nakedness. She is already a cyborg and then later becomes merged with AI, she is losing her humanity and with that comes a lack of shame in being naked. by SeekTheDeletion [none/use name]@hexbear.net reason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |
| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment Brave long-after-the-fact edit there. I get a hard time for doing post edits, so this is only fair play.
I'll restate my case before you chant "PURITAN!" again.
Again, horny is fine and it'd be best to just own up to being fine with it instead of making a pious claim that there was no other way to present the fiction and that the horny was strictly clinical which doesn't really line up with audience reception, and for that matter probable business calculations.
If the Major as presented didn't care about the bodies she used at all, why even have breasts, let alone big breasts, on those bodies at all? Why even go with the limitations of a human-like body (even that movie showed someone's fingers typing with very not-human configurations for practicality's sake) instead of something in-setting that is more made-to-purpose and agile and less cluttered with horny factor? Again, it was a fiction choice that was made that I happened to find contrived and silly, but more or less accepted it because that's what sells.
Yes, sexed up cyborg bodies were a major theme. A major meta-narrative choice in the production was made because sex sells. If that was actually more directly factored into the movie's plot, that a government agent had an impractically sexed up body for in-story reasons (that was actually less practical for purpose than people typing on keyboards in the same movie), I'd actually have seen it as less contrived as an out of setting choice and the horny factor would still be there for those that need that. by UlyssesT [he/him]@hexbear.netreason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |
| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment There were countless ways to demonstrate that that didn't involve but sells and it's already an old movie. by UlyssesT [he/him]@hexbear.netreason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |
| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment There really was no way to as effectively demonstrate that she didn’t care about being nude without showing her being nude while killing and not giving a fuck.
I really just think you don’t like any nudity or sex whatsoever. This wasn’t even sexual violence or sex at all, just desensitized clinical nudity or statuesque aesthetic nudity like paintings/statues. Motoko never shows any sexual proclivity in the entire film, it’s not even on her mind whatsoever. by SeekTheDeletion [none/use name]@hexbear.net reason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |
| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment I still think you're making a Thermian argument more than a convincing one: "It happened that way in the fiction, therefore it's the only way that it could have possibly happened."
>I really just think you don’t like any nudity or sex whatsoever.
You're completely wrong there and you're making a petty (and anti-ace/demi) attempt at a personal insult there on top of that. Nudity and sex is fine to me especially when contextualized well in fiction, and it *was* fine in the movie, even if a little contrived and silly to me. If the Major's body was already synthetic, and that synthetic material could utilize thermoptic camo, it shouldn't just be possible but a standard-issue choice to work that tech into her gear for practical reasons.
>just desensitized clinical nudity
Suuure, absolutely no horny factor was considered for audiences.
EDIT: Again, horny is *fine* and it'd be best to just own up to being fine with it instead of making a pious claim that there was *no other way* to present the fiction and that the horny was strictly *clinical* which doesn't really line up with audience reception, and for that matter probable business calculations.

Because Major didn’t chose her body. Her actual body was destroyed by sickness and the government provided her a government issued body in exchange for her becoming property of the government. Her job was to be an assassin/agent and that requires she fit in with other humans.
She didn’t chose a sexy body, just like she didn’t chose the child’s body at the end. She has no choice in this but ultimately she doesn’t care about the shape of her shell all that much, and kind of just shrugs and works with what she has.
As for your anti-ace accusations, it’s fine to be ace. It’s not fine to declare all art with any sexuality or nudity bad and evil. by SeekTheDeletion [none/use name]@hexbear.net reason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |
| 2 years ago | mod | Removed Comment >Because Major didn’t chose her body.
Yes, I know that. And the plot said so. The plot, being fiction, could have just as easily assigned her a body that was far more practical for what she was doing with it. Even that lady typing on that keyboard had fingers that were far more optimized for purpose and there wasn't a "oops you only have Barbie doll hands, sorry sweetie."
>government provided her a government issued body
Yes, and why did that government issued body need a female figure at all? Fiction decisions were made, and they were *fine,* but they were also contrived and meta-analysis of the decisions made should be allowed without "lol u must b puritan afraid of boobs" petty insults.
>just like she didn’t chose the child’s body at the end
Even that made somewhat more immediate sense than a national government deciding to issue the sexy mannequin body *with high tech camouflage skin for some contrived reason* instead of putting such advanced tech on a body (and gear) that'd be better suited for it. by UlyssesT [he/him]@hexbear.netreason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |

Her lack of agency and being owned by the government is a major theme. It’s why she relates so much to the Puppetmaster AI and seeks to merge with it. You want to destroy a major theme to fit things into your puritan constraints. We can all be glad you are not involved in the production of this kind of art or you would fuck it up.
Your argument is essentially “why didn’t they give her a perfect cyborg killer body she liked when trying to hammer home the message that her body is irrelevant to her and she doesn’t care about it?” THE POINT IS THAT SHE FEELS NO ATTACHMENT TO IT. Improving the body so that it’s awesome for her would undermine the message of the film. by SeekTheDeletion [none/use name]@hexbear.net reason: huge pointless argument unrelated to the actual art posted |

Again, you're yelling at a pile of straw there. I am not anti-nudity or anti-sex in fiction at all. I am even giving a way that I'd have found it less silly in-setting, but you'd have to take off your treat defense red lenses to see that. If you can insult me, I can insult you back.
