I don’t know about Obama, but let’s not forget Biden had classified documents stored in an old office. It was still not as bad as Trump storing documents in Mar-a-Lago and then denying it after he was caught. The incompetence of this administration is ridiculous, but let’s not pretend everything was perfect until Trump came along. It is incomprehensible how people in some of the highest offices are willfully mishandling classified information.

ThePunnyMan@lemm.eeto Videos@lemmy.world•Marc Rober shows why Tesla's camera-only self-driving system is dangerous1·1 年前I agree that it would be unethical to ignore self driving since it has the potential to be far safer than a human driver. I just have problems with companies over promising what their software can do.
As for the insurance part, why should my insurance premium increase for a software defect? If a manufacturer defect causes me to crash my car, the manufacturer is at fault, not me. You wouldn’t be liable if the brakes gave out in a new car.
Also keep in mind that the hard data from the real world means putting these vehicles on the road with other drivers. Deficiencies in the software mean potential crashes and deaths. It will be valuable data but we can’t forget that there are people behind it. Self driving is going to shake things up and will probably be a net positive overall. I just think we should be mindful as we begin to embrace it.
ThePunnyMan@lemm.eeto Videos@lemmy.world•Marc Rober shows why Tesla's camera-only self-driving system is dangerous8·1 年前Part of the problem is the question of who is at fault if an autonomous car crashes. If a human falls for this and crashes, it’s their fault. They are responsible for their damages and the damages caused by their negligence. We expect a human driver to be able to handle any road hazards. If a self driving car crashes who’s fault is it? Tesla? They say their self driving is a beta test so drivers must remain attentive at all times. The human passenger? Most people would expect a self driving car would drive itself. If it crashes, I would expect the people that made the faulty software to be at fault, but they are doing everything they can to shift the blame off of themselves. If a self driving car crashes, they expect the owner to eat the cost.
Maybe it’s the micro plastics in our brains. So many fun things to think about.
I don’t know. When I smell a bbq place as I’m going by I look at the place and think, “Maybe I should go in and grab a bite.” With a fly through a fart… God I hope not.

Me too. Voyager is a fine name but there was something dumb/charming about the name Wefwef.
Yeah, except they are using the new buzzword technology to try and do it. What tools are they using? What testing have they done on them? What is the false positive rate? The MO of this administration has been to use a sledgehammer for issues that require a scalpel. You don’t have to be a part of Hamas or a supporter of terrorism to have opinions on current events. How do we make sure this doesn’t turn into a McCarthy style witch hunt?

Gabe and Valve haven’t earned undying loyalty. They have earned the benefit of the doubt for now. ThePunnyMan@lemm.eeto science@lemmy.world•Our brain contains alarmingly high levels of microplasticsEnglish11·1 年前Sample size isn’t the problem. The problem is we don’t have a control group to compare against. Ideally, you’d compare people with micro plastics to people without them, but those people don’t really exist anymore.
You can also do target date funds. Each one indicates the projected year you expect to retire. As you get older, it shifts more to safer investments like bonds. The idea is invest in the stock market when you are young and don’t expect to use the money soon. You are able to hold through downturns in the market and returns have historically always trended up despite the occasional drops. When you are near retirement and expect to be using the money you can’t always afford to wait it out so you should invest in things that are more stable but have lower returns like bonds. Target dates have slightly higher fees and you should always check what the fees are before you invest, but they are very set it and forget it.
I’m curious if the problem is how bright LED lights are or something else. I recently bought a car and it has an automatic brights option. Basically, it switched on the brights automatically for some situations. I turned it off because I felt it was turning them on when I didn’t need them.
Well for one, in the press conference when he announced the CDC’s recommendation to wear cloth masks, he emphasized that it was a voluntary measure and then added he wasn’t going to do it. People look to their leaders for guidance. How many people refused to wear a mask despite the CDC’s recommendation because the president felt the need to throw in his own opinion with his experts’ recommendations.

Now it is very obvious when YouTube is displaying an ad vs the content creator doing an ad read. If it becomes less obvious where the ad is coming from by injecting it into the stream, I wonder if they’re hoping to shift some of the perception of excessive ads off of them.

Absolutely. The disregard for government secrets is far more blatant here and in the Trump case and their actions after the fact are far worse. It doesn’t change the fact that there are rules for how classified information is to be handled and we have examples of Trump, his cabinet, Biden, Pence and Clinton disregarding those rules. For Clinton, Biden and Pence, at least I buy that it was a mistake and there is some remorse. They didn’t double down. It doesn’t change the fact that it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Just because things suck now doesn’t mean that we should wish for things to just go back to how they were before. Better than Trump should not be the bar.
