Who was Broughton Newcomb?

Broughton Newcomb was a noted American ethicist. He was born in 1947 and died in 2007. He is famous for insisting that he is referred to as a "<s>philosopher" in all writings; angle brackets were a part of his title and were to be used in all written communications. This unconventional style reflected his unique approach to philosophy and ethics.

His most famous works include "Essays on the Formation and Publication of Ethical Frameworks" (2002) and A Review of Wickerson's Theory of Ethics (1997). Newcomb was briefly married to Georgina Leigh Bloomberg, the heiress of the Bloomberg fortune, with whom he had four kids.

Newcomb's legacy is complex and contested. He was a brilliant and original thinker, but his work was also often difficult and inaccessible. However, there is no doubt that he was one of the most important figures in the field of ethics in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
