However, it is so important that the public voice their concerns about this incredibly short sighted project. Rather than demolish the building to build a conference centre and hotel, we should instead revitalize this space - update the building and facilities rather than tear it all down. The upgrades to the building were quoted at $120 million, which is  significantly less than the 2 billion proposed into building new facilities which don’t have the same commitment to the arts in the community. "

I recently moved here from the west coast for /job opportunity reasons, I already regret it. What do you do for fun in this City? It seems so cold, boring, and theres just seemingly too many people. It’s like living in a bit city downtown with no benefits of being in a big city. Half the time is spent at intersections or in the car. Anyone have any recommendations that are actually fun? Any hidden gems?

Without speaking to the widely available conversations over the old eatery at the Port Arthur Curling Centre - I decided to check it out for myself today and discovered that there’s a new crew spinning things up! Enjoyed a cheeseburger with crinkle-cut fries - just as nature intended someone to eat at a curling club! They were really great - I might be wrong, but it looked like they made their own patties in-house that had a distinct flavour. ALMOST reminded me of Carrie’s Corner, but I’m sure true burger afficionados could set me straight on that. Full menu hopefully coming on Monday, but I’ve put up what I found for now in a new entry - if anyone drops in next week before I can do an update, I’ll be happy to credit you! Any FOSS developers in Ottawa? or wannabe FOSS developers?

So I’ve been following some FOSS/linux software groups around the world like GPUL in Galicia and Chaos Computer Club & Modal Collective in Germany and I’m a little jealous of what they’ve been able to build in their associated cities/regions. For example GPUL is organizing GUADEC (The GNOME community’s annual conference) this year in A Coruña, and they regularly run workshops to get people into FOSS software development at their local university UDC. They’ve also organized (or helped organize) previous events like XDC (The X.Org developers conference for wayland/x11/mesa and related technologies).
