I agree that the day is too long.  I guess a tutorial could help, but after trying (and failing) - I read all these comments for tips and actually did pretty well.  i noticed that the gear thingy would show full even if it wasn't, until i clicked on it.  I as fooled by that for a while.  interesting concept though.

Yep, some bugs did slip through the cracks. And the project didn't get finished to the point we wanted to, but I think we are expanding it to a fuller project

You should! I think it has a lot of potential.

Very lovely graphics and UI. Music is alright! I would say a tutorial would be in order for this. I was reading comments and figured out to rewind the machine. I first spammed the button but realized u had to hold it. The day is rather loooong. Everything else seems very fine though. I really like the concept. Great job on the jam everyone, and I wish you luck on the game jam!

Thanks for playing! The tutorial was next on our list ;)

It's a bit confusing but i can see all the work you put on this project. You should use a little tutorial to explain people how to play the game. At least good job to do this in only a wekkend !

Developer

Thanks! The tutorial would be the next priority

Love the sprites for the machines and the funky background track! I will say this game could do with a tutorial although I know that's been mentioned in other comments. I will say however, in case you didn't know, that it does "work" to wind up the machines by spamming the left mouse button instead of holding it.  Somehow I got past 2 machines with only spamming, but I couldn't get much farther. After seeing another reply in which it was explained you have to hold it, I went back and got to 3 fully upgraded machines. Overall nice submission!

Thank you so much for playing! I know the mechanics aren't explained that great (if you could even say we explained anything). A tutorial was the next thing on our list, and there was so much more we wanted to do, but didn't have time for (because this tycoon type of game was new to all of us programmers). I know it does "work" to wind them up with spamming, but it won't be as effective.

Graphics and music are cool, even if the sound effects make my ears hurt after a while. The gameplay is rather confusing though? I don't seem to be gaining anything from keeping the washer there, my money is remaining the same. Could've been really cool, but unfortunately really buggy and the mechanics go unexplained :(

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing. Nothing is buggy, the washer increases a hidden stat called "quality", and makes the eggs not lose any worth at the end of the process (eg. if they had a bad quality level, they wouldn't make as much money). I've said this in other comments, but a tutorial was next on our list. I'm bummed we didn't have time for it though.

Apologies, game was sorta hard to understand

I liked the graphics and music. The idea seems nice, but like the other comment, I'm also a bit confused what I'm supposed to do. I got that I need to wind up the machines to keep them running, but I don't seem to be getting any money from the eggs, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Developer(+1)

The money won't go in your pocket before the end of the day. You will get a paycheck up on the screen summarizing your day, and how much money you've made. I'm sorry there is nothing to explain how the game works or anything, because we just got a "minimum viable product" (meaning a version without any juice/extra details you'd normally see in finished games). Would've loved to come to the "tutorial" part of our task list, but unfortunately because of time and our lack of experience in tycoon games, we didn't get to it in time. Glad you played our game though!

Hi! I'll start off saying that I like the graphics and different machines, however I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but the gameplay is just boring. You build some machines, they jam immediately and now I have to wait for 10 minutes. There might be a way to speed it up, but there is no tutorial and the description just says I need a brain.

Does that mean I don't have a brain?

Developer(+1)

HI! Thanks for playing. No, it doesn't mean you don't have a brain, it just means us developers didn't make a good enough job at explaining our mechanics! I totally understand that you think the gameplay is boring, because there's not a lot to do when actually maintaining your machines. If you hover over the machines, there is a gear, and if you hold down Left Mouse Button on that gear, you wind up the machine. If it goes all the way down, the machine starts wasting eggs, so keep the winder above 0 at all times!

Submitted(+1)

The no brain part was a joke, but I still had a heureka! moment just now when I tried winding up the machine. Thanks for the explanation.

Developer(+1)

Of course. Because of our planning and lack of experience in making tycoon games, we didn't have much time to expand on our minimum viable product, meaning no time for tutorials. And I feel kind of dirty if I'm going to modify the game after the deadline, so it will have to be like this at least for the remainder of the voting. Again, it isn't your fault if the game is hard to understand/enjoy, that is on us.

Nah, it's fine. You did your best. And that's great. You're still miles ahead of those that didn't even try. There is nothing stopping you from making a post-jam version and making it even better.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

That is what game jams are for :) Figuring out what works, and what doesn't. What you need to work on, and what you're good at. Managing time, and working effectively; creating your own workflow

You couldn' t be more correct :)
