Game Description
In a post-space-war world where humanity is dwindled, all that remains is you and the debris surrounding your space station. Use your ship, the UNS Repurpose, to salvage wreckage and repurpose it to upgrade your station!

How does your game tie into the theme?
The player uses the UNS Repurpose to collect wreckage in the debris field, and repurpose that wreckage as scrap metal to upgrade their ship and their station.

Uff. those controls are too realistic for me. It takes forever to accelerate at decent speed and the same amount of time to decelerate.

Maneuvering is similarly difficult and unresponsive. Combined with the fact that you have limited vision, it is hard to collect anything before you run out of fuel. It is still a cool simulation project, I'm just not sure of it working as a game.

Maybe it is someone's thing, but definitely not mine.

Thanks a lot for your review Grue!

"...I'm just not sure of it working as a game."

Check out Steam: Delta V - Rings of Saturn and you'll see how well a realistic newton physics space simulation works as a game idea :)

Very cool. I love the Newtonian physics controls. With enough time (and upgrades) I'm sure I could be doing circle strafes around wrecks to salvage. Sadly, like others here are mentioning, I couldn't find a way to refuel or upgrade.

Very cool nonetheless and it has great potential.

First impression was great. The graphics and UI looks neat and the controls feels great - you really feel the heaviness of the space ship. On this part the game is awesome.

On the other hand:

I was not able to find out how to use scraps to upgrade/repair ship.

I was bumping to things but it doesn't seemed to do any damage to my ship.

It was so easy to get lost. Some subtle indicator on the edge of the screen to find the space station would be very handy!

I didn't find an option to get to the main menu to start over. Even when I run out of fuel, there was no fail state allowing me to restart.

When you get out of fuel, the thrusters sound keeps playing.

I wonder if the upgrades are implemented? All game descriptions suggest it is, but I didn't really find a way how to do it.

Overall it seems like a very solid foundations to a game that was unfortunatelly not finished in time.

This game is so cool!! I played FTL recently and UNS Repurpose reminds me of it a bit with the theming and art. I really liked how it felt to fly around in space and not having full control and having to maneuver around was fun.  The graphics are peak and the UI is great too.

I was a bit confused on where to go and what to do. I figured out how to get resources but couldn't figure out how to use them! If I could figure out how to do that I feel like I could easily lose myself in this game. Really great work!

RCS controls are pretty accurate and responsive though the ship is very heavy and you can feel the inertia you need to overcome when angling to get the mining laser in focus. So the controls are accurate but also very unforgiving cuz the mining laser has no traverse.    I thought I could use the mining laser on the asteroids but turns out I couldn't. Also could not figure out how to dock with the station and get upgrades

Developer(+1)

This is the best response to hear! I haven’t even heard about RCS before the jam. apologies for me not being cultured.

I love how you said unforgiving, hahaha. We’re trying our best to apply for a game breaking bug, as it just doesn’t feel right not to upgrade and provide simplicity in the space movement and gathering.

The game had a real lost in space feel. I liked the intro music a lot. The graphics had a nice retro feel. It felt a lot like driving a real boat in the water, so well done there. I felt like a massive space freighter.

I was a few minutes in before I realized the mouse had an effect on the camera. It felt like the ship was uncontrollably drifting to the upper left corner and I think that was the mouse. I collected a bunch of scrap by pure luck, and then couldn't find the space station. I restarted and tried again, but then I couldn't find any scrap. While I think you did a good job with the physics, I think the learning curve was too much. It would have been nice to have a ship that was easy to control and got more difficult.

Overall, well executed start to a game that would improve with some more effort.

Hey Dragonforge, Thanks for sharing your feedback, the learning curve was definitely TOO much. I didn’t even realise anything about these scifi transporter spaceships until the jam.

We did a ton of research, and had a scope that was quite vertical, relatively easy to do. but as you know what happens in game jams. Juggling crunch time, private life and work. The upgrades were supposed to help you move better

I had a similar experience. I had people playing my game throughout the game jam and got feedback about the speed, turning, drift, all sorts of things. I even had a suggestion to scrap the controls altogether and make it "normal". Balancing is a difficult thing in a jam. You're trying to cram features in until the last minute.

I sadly was not able to figure out how to upgrade the ship :(. The controls are fun and challenging. The break down of other ships was a nice effect! Loved the audio effect for bumping into things. Graphics are gorgeous! Overall fun sandbox!

Developer

Awww man, so happy that you think so. Yeah the SFX made were the “juice” we wanted to apply during this game jam.

A cool game, I really enjoy the ship controls. somewhat unwieldy but fun to wrestle with.

The art is really great, the wrecks, the space station and the background all look great.

I'm unsure if it's just not implemented yet or I'm dumb but I couldn't figure out how to spend any of the scrap I had, I tried interacting with the space station on various sides with no luck, let me know if I've done something wrong.

Also 10/10 on the audio for the satisfying "DONK" whenever you hit something.

Developer

Hey. Yeah we really wanted the weight of the ship to be part of the beauty of the game. Thanks for trying out the game Kanosis!
