This reminds me of some of those games from the Flash era, where the character tries to go farther and farther via upgrades. I like the concept, especially when coupled with the writing of Reimu being a gremlin to get her items.
Even if the music seemed to be on a short loop, I liked how dynamic it was depending on speed. The visuals add a silly detail to the game as well. The progression isn't too challenging and seems almost trivial, but that worked well for a short game.
Well done on this one!Very fun game! I loved that the music got more intense the faster you moved. That plus the art gave it a simplistic charm that i adored.
Also the fairies are kinda busted if you actually hit one (i accidentally hit 2 back to back and flew at hypersonic speeds)
I wish it had an endless mode tho.
This reminds to a game from Atari called space taxi due to how it depends on gravity and how funny it is when you crash on the ground hahaha. It took me 20 days since I put everything on the initial startup and I didn't knew how to control Reimu with speeds so high which was very fun in turn until I found which upgrades and the best angle to choose. Besides this, I also share all the positive comments everyone else has shared.
My Favorite Parts: It is very charming and enjoying, and I don't know if slapping the fairies is justified but I think the boost you get from them is the cherry on top hahahaha.
This takes me back..
As far as "first real games" go, that was actually pretty great. I love Learn to Fly, so the game instantly appealed to me. And despite your opinions on your own drawings skills, I actually found the sketch style to be very charming, and then the actual world itself came together in a surreal way. Nice job!
Wow! This game had a lot of charm and did a great job carrying the feeling of the classic Learn to Fly games! I thought the writing, while short, was very sincere and cute with its romance (the Alice part toward the ending was especially engaging). It did take a bit to get used to the controls due to starting so close to the ground, but the learning curve was relatively quick. Great work! :)
I actually really enjoyed the game's gameplay loop, my first playthrough I completed it on day 10, my second on day 9. The plot is simple and straight forward and the gameplay loop reminding me of a golden age of endless flash runners. I dont really have a lot to say, it looks on the rough side at first glance but it's gameplay sinks into you and its art grows on you over time, reflecting that era. I did two whole playthroughs! Good job!
May look underfitted on the cover but it's really fun in essence!
The flight physics and stat upgrading are really cool!
I just feel like not all of the game's elements were used to their potential: for example:
- the fairies are so rare and hard to deliberately hit that upgrading fairy-boosting feels like a waste of mana
- same for the durability stat: I saw a bullet(?) only once in my playthrough, and even then just like fairies, they're really easy to avoid
The drawings may look QUALITY but I gotta commend the effort made for the upgrade icons, and the broom's flying trail, and Reimu's crashing animation. They're the definite extra that's needed!
I managed to clear the game in 7 in-game days! (But surely one or more days can be cut?)Now, for this kind of game, it would be superb if the background had features! How magical would it be to see Reimu fly at sub-sonic speeds in front of a starry sky?
Also my crowning moment is surely when I reached the distance goal after spending all the boost and free-falling almost vertically at terminal velocity. Simply amazing!
Magical Astronomy.
This game isn't all too bad just rough around the edges, the early 3D style models aren't my favorite and the music gets a little ear grading during the later parts of the game.
The gameplay is basic and fun, it does a good job of feeling like the learn to fly games with its gameplay loop. However its nothing to write home about. Its use of LGBTQ themes is also iffy due to the writing and plot kind of just being "there".
Overall though, this game is something to be proud about!
