I have pieces made of all three of these metals—sterling silver, rhodium-plated, and stainless steel—and I don’t think one is necessarily "better" than the others. I’ve posted before about how metal prices have gone up in the few years since I started metalsmithing, but this week I came to use gold for the first time, and was shocked by the huge differences in metal types too. Silver is costly enough, but 9ct gold is 28 times as much as the equivalent weight in sterling silver. And 18ct gold is 88 times more.
