A superb late summer English landscape depicting a traveler returning home at dusk, encased by a hand carved giltwood frame of an extremely high quality. Both pieces date to the 18th century, circa 1780, the painting, a true country house picture and the frame a very stately home one. It measures 55 in – 139.8 cm wide, 46 in – 117 cm high and 4 in – 10 cm deep, including the frame. The picture opening measures 42 ¾ in – 108.5 cm by 33 ¾ in – 86 cm.
