Internet2 enables SMS messaging on employee-assigned business phone numbers for one-to-one, conversational business communication. Employees may send and receive SMS messages with other Internet2 staff, members, professional colleagues, and external parties with whom they have an existing or directly initiated business relationship. SMS conversations may be initiated by either the employee or the external party.
Internet2 does not use SMS for outreach or marketing purposes, including campaigns, announcements, promotions, recruitment, bulk messaging, automated messaging, or any activity that could be construed as programmatic sending. SMS contact information is obtained through ordinary professional interactions, such as email signatures, business cards, and direct exchanges. Internet2 does not initiate SMS communications from web forms or similar collection methods.
All SMS content and metadata remain within the native SMS environment of the service provider used by Internet2 and are not sold, shared, or disclosed for marketing or affiliate purposes. Internet2 does not store or process SMS content outside of its SMS provider’s platform.
External parties who message an Internet2 number will receive any legally required opt-out notices automatically provided by the carrier or service provider. SMS functionality is part of the standard business phone service offered to employees and is governed by this disclosure and applicable carrier and platform requirements.
