National Endowment for the Humanities

From 2010 to 2012, Hymnary.org was supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities* (NEH) to expand and improve its online database of hymn texts and tunes. The grant money was used to incorporate the Dictionary of North American Hymnology into Hymnary.org, to improve tools for researchers and scholars, to enter and correct data, and to scan about 2,000 hymnals from the Princeton Theological Seminary library's Benson collection.

The project was given the "We the People" designation from NEH, which is awarded for projects that encourage and strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture. More information is available from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
