Carcer (Commodore 64, Commodore Plus/4, Atari 8-bit)
A downloadable game

In Carcer your goal is to escape the dungeons, but there's a catch...each step you take, you need to drop a coin behind you. You can't move with zero coins but you can always go back and pick up the coins you have dropped.
Moreover, you can't take any coins out of the dungeons either, which means you will need to leave your last coin in the exit gate.
There are 3 key parts scattered around each dungeon, which you will need to collect in order to open the exit gate.
The game contains 32 levels that get progressively harder. It was heavily inspired by the game Dungeon Escape by OriginalStone8. It is compatible with PAL (recommended) and NTSC systems.

Awesome Haplo !
Will be going into Zzap!64 issue 31...
I am a big fan of your games! I really love the style and ideas behind them.
I recorded a short C64 gameplay (in German) which can be found at my channel:
Good puzzle game, fun to play. I added it to my video among other games released in December.
Thanks!
A very nice puzzle game with an interesting game concept. And yet another perfect example of how good games can impress more through captivating gameplay than elaborate graphics. Our German-language review can be found at 01:12:50. English subtitles are also available. Subscribing to our YouTube and Twitch channels is welcome. 🙂
Congrats again. What intrigues me the most, is the choice of different graphic style for the title logo, along the three versions which potentially can produce almost the same charset graphics.
I'm afraid the reason behind it might not be as intriguing/interesting as you expect. The C64 version uses multi-colour text mode for the logo. Since Atari does not have this mode (at 320x192 it is B/W anyway), and does not support more than 128 user-defined tiles, I opted for a simpler logo.
To my knowledge Plus/4 does not have multi-colour text mode either (only in bitmap mode; please correct me if I'm wrong), so I just went with the Atari version and a simple colour gradient.
Oh no no, I didn't intend to say that one logo is better than the other, love'em all. I only noticed this choice and commented it. Anyway, of course the Plus/4 have MC text mode ($FF07, bit4), as you can see in the majority of the games demos and so on, and it works exactly like on C64.
Not at all, I understood what you meant.
So it was a lost opportunity with the Plus/4 logo then. I could have used C64's; just needed to fix up the colour map. Next game!
Awesome - Plus/4 version:
Yes! All 32 levels. Awesome game. Brilliant design. Some levels were headscratchers but doable. Yeah, I beat it. Music is awesome too.
What a brilliant game. I'm hooked. Noting down a code for now and will continue tomorrow.
Great puzzle game!
Great game, thanks.
You can use Commodore Key to reset current level and Spacebar to toggle music on/off.
I noticed you can also used fire button to reset the level too.
The game tells you all this in the first 7 levels.
Indeed. I manage to get to level 17. 15 levels to go now :D
very good
A decent and quite original idea for a puzzle game. Another good thing about it is that there is no rushing around against the clock finding that just as you have just about solved the puzzle, the time runs out. No lives also. Some nice effects around the game board. I also like the music that is featured in this game. I look forward to seeing your next game.
Heeey where's the C16 version here? :D Congrats!
Patience my friend, the Plus/4 version will come soon too!
Greeeeat! :O
There you go!
Awesome game!
‘Carcer’, by Haplo; who is also responsible for such hits as ‘Tenebra 1+2’, ‘Ooze the Escape’ and ‘Nixy and the Seed of Doom’. This time it's another small but clever puzzler. You control a little green something. Your aim is to collect three key pieces to open the exit. However, your steps are limited and with each step, you lose a gold coin. The trick, however, is that you can collect them again and reuse the steps. Sounds easy at first, but as the level increases, so does the level of difficulty. Very well done, I'm looking forward to the remaining levels :-).
Well, very simple to learn, very hard to master. Another great game. Luckily there are codes for every single level :)
Will be a game I will try to finish asap :D
After my first try, I reached level 16... Broken tiles are evil :D
Simple but addictive 😁 Very good job 💪
Maybe we could release it in physical form as a compilation? If so, we are open to the suggestion 😁
Best regards
