Samantha Ming's README
Hello, here’s a glance of how I work
☕ Coffee Chats
I appreciate occasional coffee chats. Afternoons work best for me, so if possible please schedule calls then. If that timing isn't convenient, feel free to propose another slot that works for you
Meetings
I prefer 1:1 meetings over group meetings and generally join group calls only when absolutely required. Otherwise, I attend in an async manner.
GitLab Handbook: As an all-remote company, we do not look to a meeting by default; when they are necessary, we strive to make in-person attendance optional by enabling asynchronous contribution. This works because of our values, which leads GitLab to hire individuals who enjoy being a manager of one, a point detailed in our Efficiency value. Team members are empowered to decide whether a sync meeting is the best use of their time, and set boundaries when needed.
Avoid Friday meetings when possible
I try to keep Fridays free so I can focus on deep work and wrap up the week, and I’d appreciate it if you could avoid scheduling meetings with me on Fridays unless it’s time-sensitive.
💬 Communication Style
I prefer communicating asynchronously through issues and merge requests whenever possible, rather than relying on Slack. Written discussion helps me stay focused and gives me time to think and respond thoughtfully, and it aligns with GitLab’s Transparency value by keeping conversations open and accessible.
🤝 Collaboration
I value collaboration and believe solutions are stronger when we work together. My default is to work through issues, merge requests, and written discussions, but I’m happy to join an ad-hoc call when a real-time conversation is clearly the most effective way to move forward.
