Auto-Focus on Search Box in Live Path Effects, Extensions, and Similar Dialogs
Dear Inkscape Development Team,
I truly appreciate the incredible work you have done with Inkscape, and I would like to suggest a small but impactful usability improvement.
Currently, when opening dialogs such as Live Path Effects (Shift + Ctrl + 7), Effect Gallery, or Extensions, the search/input field is not automatically focused. This requires users to manually click on the search box before typing, which slows down workflow, especially for those who rely on keyboard shortcuts for efficiency.
Feature Request:
Whenever a user opens the Live Path Effects, Effect Gallery, Extensions, or similar dialogs, the search box should automatically gain focus. This would allow users to immediately start typing to filter effects/extensions without needing to use the mouse.
this behavior should happen for
-
LPE dialog -
Filter Galery -
Extetion gallery
Benefits:
Enhances accessibility and efficiency for power users. Improves workflow speed by eliminating unnecessary mouse interactions. Aligns with best practices seen in other design software, where search/filter fields are instantly active upon opening. This small change would greatly enhance the user experience, especially for those who prefer a keyboard-driven workflow. I hope you will consider implementing this feature in a future update.
Thank you for your time and dedication to improving Inkscape!
Best regards, phong
