Linked images don't show up, unexpected warnings from Help->Tutorials->Inkscape Tracing

• delete/rename preferences file
• Windows 10, Inkscape 1.1-dev (628b1873, 2020-10-19)
• run inkscape
• choose menu item Help->Tutorials->Inkscape Tracing
• immediately get the warning messages, below, as the tutorial is being loaded:
