Docked grouped dialogs do not appear when Inkscape is launched (1.0.x)

Summary:

When Inkscape is launched, docked dialogues (dialogs1) do not appear if they are grouped. Where the palettes should be, there is a blank area containing a smaller white area. Pressing F12 (Show/Hide Dialogues) does nothing. The dialogue area cannot be resized. Shortcuts to switch between dialogues (e.g. Shift+Ctrl+A for Align and Distribute) do nothing.

Once you switch to another window and back, they may draw in (seems not to in the win32 theme but does in the GTK theme). Restoring and re-maximising the window does always make them appear. This bug does not relate to whether the window opens at its default size or maximised, or whether window geometry is saved.

A single dialogue loads fine. Multiple dialogues arranged vertically load fine. However, if you group all the dialogues, they stop loading.

Changing the Inkscape theme has no effect on this bug either.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Rename preferences.xml to clear out preferences
  2. Open a few dialogues (ctrl+shift+M, ctrl+shift+A, ctrl+shift+D etc)
  3. Drag dialogue 2 through N onto the centre of the first one, so that they are grouped
  4. Close Inkscape
  5. Re-open Inkscape

  1. Even in Britain I thought we called them “dialogs” (versus dialogue as in actual conversation) but since the UI has taken upon itself to use “dialogues”, who am I to argue? :)
