SVG Opentype colored fonts support & export...
Just got some piece of the puzzle... about SVG Opentype colored font support Reading #618 I can see SVG Opentype font support was ok. COLOR was to add. Unfortunately, neither it is broken since, not I miss use app :-/ Considering a previous chat with volunteer, looks broken... or not completely released, unfortunately
Summary:
Using some SVG Colored Opentype font :
- it looks bitmap in Inkscape (zooming is not as sharp as possible when using vector) ; not that much important if the following was ok..
- can't convert text with SVG Opentype colored font to shapes ; output is outlined (only contour, not every piece of typeface) and it is b:w
- can't export as PDF ; output is b:w
Steps to reproduce:
I try to reproduce https://inkscape.org/~jabiertxof/%E2%98%85svg-in-opentype as it is supposed to be a safe start ;o) Font used is Gilbert and comes from https://www.typewithpride.com/ Font is installed Opened Inkscape, add some text and use the Gilbert font. =>heavy (4000%) zoom over a "b" shows bitmap like pixelized areas (when it does not for Arial) =>save as PDF render a b:w PDF using the b/w backup font from the SVG Opentype colored font (as SVG Opentype colored font embed a b/w version for failover) and produced with Cairo 1.17.7 =>select text and convert as shapes just breaks colors and render as b:w only the contour...
Using saved SVG and using FFox portable 117 as viewer on Windows makes as expected. Fails running Ubuntu. Printing from FFox and use save as PDF produces a colored PDF and Cairo used is 1.17.4, smaller version, (text is there converted as shapes, and Inskape can open it)
Here we are :o)
Thanks for taking care... We could add comments or sample upon request
