Organizing some UX pieces
I'm a beginner user in vector graphics, and tried to scan most of Inkscape functions to understand best what the tool can provide as capabilities, and from my simple test I tried to point to some aspects/situations that can be fixed or improved:
known (sort of)
7- Transform and Arrange should be added to Command bar because they are a lot used.
9- LPEs selector dialog (with that big UI components) looks like another/foreign piece of software embedded inside Inkscape and does not blind well with existing interface like the way we see/access filters or extensions.
12- We need to add export to jpeg/tiff to support output images with color profile.
duplicates/separated
1- The LPEs functions are really well documented using tooltips (really big like to the one who did it), but raster extensions are really lacking any kind of explanation or documentation of what the extension parameters/options can do or how to modify them, except for some raster extensions dialogs that have help tab to explain the extension usage.
Sometimes I have to open Imagemagick documentation to understand what each option means and how to modify it.
This also applies to some other non raster extensions which does not explain clearly what does each input.
2- Some extensions need to be grouped under one group:
- Functions plotter, Parametric curves, Draw from triangle, Latex and Triangle can be grouped under Mathematics root node.
- 3D Polyhedron and Wireframe sphere can be grouped under 3D root node.
3- Some Text extensions like Text>Change_Cases should be added to Text tool control bar, because it's basic feature and a lot needed by users.
4- One of the important functions that need to be added to Inkscape is support for real CMYK export, and not relying on external tool like Scribus to read the embedded ICC colors inside exported SVG.
5- Inkscape should be able to export to PDF/X-4 which is the standard for printing professional PDF.
6- The Edit>Paste_Style and Edit>Paste_Size features should be also added to the contextual menu which appear by right clicking on mouse.
8- Inkscape should free itself from distributions related themes and icon themes, and create its own theme and icons like what Gimp did and it worked pretty well for them.
10- Text Hyphenation should be really added because without it Inkscape can never be used to create documents with long texts especially with texts that flow inside other frames.
11- We really need a way to flatten selected layers into one, because that simplify the workflow when using a lot of temporary layers.
