Protected Tags wildcards seem to match tags they shouldn't

I have a 'protected tags' wildcard of

v*

However, it's also matching the following tags, which do not start with v:

• candidate-v2.1.3
• pre-PTV-14991/v2.7.0

This seems at odds with the documentation on protected tags.
