Release notes

Allow users to pin the active branches page to the sidebar.

Problem to solve

As a user with many active branches, I want to see more than five active branches on the branches page, so that I don't need to take another step to see active branches 6 - X.

Intended users

Developer

User experience goal

The user should be able to use the sidebar in the GitLab UI to go directly to a list of active branches (for example, the 20 latest active branches) ordered by updated date.

Proposal

Either

  • Allow the Active Branches page to be pinned in the sidebar, or
  • Allow maintainers to set a much higher number than 5 for the number of active branches displayed

Further details

On the current Branches page, 5 "stale" branches are displayed while active branches 6-10+ are hidden.

Permissions and Security

Pinning Active Branches to the sidebar or updating repository settings fit into existing permissions.

Documentation

N/A if Active Branches can be pinned to the sidebar.

(Unsure what to enter in the following sections.)
