Design: make it more clear which integrations are active

Everyone can contribute. Help move this issue forward while earning points, leveling up and collecting rewards.

Context

In https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/-/issues/1893, there's an indication that customers aren't fully aware of an integration's capabilities (insight).

Originally it was proposed to surface integrations in the sidebar, but validation revealed that that solution had some limitations.

Assumptions

  • It's useful to everyone to see which integrations are enabled, even if a limited number of people control the integration settings
  • It's useful for everyone to know what the integration can do
  • It's useful for everyone to know the specific configuration I have set up in my integration

Previous research

  • Users generally expect to see integrations contextually integrated within GitLab (insight)
  • Many participants integrations are managed by a separate team. Some participants do not have access to settings (insight)
  • Participants are not fully aware of an integration's capabilities (issue)(insight)
  • Some participants noted that they do not often need to adjust the settings of their integration (insight)

To do

Explore design that surfaces which integrations are active:

  • regardless of user role
  • in a place that is in-line with user's expectations
