ImageSource: enable synchronous generation of images

Some image sources are synchronous by nature (e.g VectorSource), meaning they can generate an image without delay (because they have nothing to download or prepare).

We should make use of this property by avoiding waiting for a promise and enable immediate repaint of layers when the source changes.
