Cannot Build with Karumi Dexter

After a Gradle plugin upgrade, it seems as though Dexter fails to build, with this error message:

Android resource linking failed
<project-folder>/branham-player/base/build/intermediates/merged_manifests/debugFeature/AndroidManifest.xml:152: error: resource style/Dexter.Internal.Theme.Transparent (aka tech.oliver.branhamplayer.android.dev:style/Dexter.Internal.Theme.Transparent) not found.
error: failed processing manifest.

Consider replacing Dexter with Android Permissions. Keep all of the messages and behavior the same.
