2020LDN welcome Gaszia into the fold with a sharply-focused two-track drop that sets off twin plains of exploration for Utah-based producer Aaron Spasiano. From darkside, breakbeat-charged pressure to sweetly sentimental melodics, this release marks a new chapter for an artist who has been in direct dialogue with a multitude of energies across the contemporary electronic music landscape.
Spasiano is also one half of X&G, a project that first came to light on Skrillex's OWLSA before delivering the ACES X SECA single to 2020LDN back in 2022. As Gaszia, he's developed his strain of high-definition club music with a strong influence from UK soundsystem styles, twisted up into his own distinctive approach. With experience comes intention, and on these two new tracks Spasiano focuses on lean arrangements and less over-thinking — a more honest portal into his interpretation of the club music lexicon.
'Foreshadow' leads with a powerful, dynamic bassline that speaks to Spasiano's experience, keeping the percussion taut and minimal until letting rip with a rolling break tooled and tweaked to perfection. By way of contrast, 'Memory Loop' is instantly a mellower affair led by melancholic chords, harmonious leads and wistful snatches of vocal. There's still ample weight in the production, from punchy low end to deft drums, but the emphasis is very much on emotive expression coming from a place of sincerity — a quality that marks out the music on 2020LDN whatever mood it reaches for.
