Day 1344 : Carry On

liner notes:

Professional : Pretty chill day. Made some more progress on the coding exercise I started yesterday. There's a custom option that I wasn't sure if I could get working, but I did. Had a couple of meetings. One I got some clarity on a project and what I need to change. It's just some CSS so it shouldn't be too terrible, especially since I implemented editing and updating projects. Spent the rest of the day making sure my workshop tomorrow is good to go. It's been rainy and cold all day so it made it difficult to get a lot of stuff done.

Personal : Last night, I reworked a model for an upcoming project. I also came across a little $30 machine that I can use for another project's packaging. If it works, I'll be able to really step up some of my products. So I watched a bunch of reviews and placed an order.

I really need to do my taxes, both personal and business. Going to go through and get all the forms needed so I can knock it out tomorrow. I've been playing around with the UV laser's settings and seeing the outcomes on this material I'll be using in this next project. I'm getting the current order knocked out. Almost got one of the products completed. Going to spend a little more time into the evening to see how far I can get. I'll also be changing up the model I was working on last night now that I know how things are fitting. Going to carry on working this order, eat dinner and work on other tasks.

Have a great night!

Day 1343 : Never Give Up

liner notes:

Saturday : Pretty normal Saturday. Did the radio show and had a good time as usual. The recording of this week's show is at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com

Sunday : Pretty productive day! I printed out some test prints for the order to make sure everything still works. It does! I created a jig so that I can place the items in the jig so that the prints always are in the same place on the items. I printed it on the 3D printer that I moved the filaments from the top to the side and it printed fine for the whole 4 hours it took to complete. I also tested the UV laser on customizing the packaging for the orders. I took a bunch of pictures and videos and sent them to the client to get feedback.

Professional : Only had one meeting today. Responded to a community question. Started a new sample application that I will then turn into a coding exercise. I never really used the feature before, so it took me a second to wrap my mind around it. I've learned to never give up and just went through the documentation. I got a lot of it done, but there was one part that I wasn't sure about. The meeting I had was with my manager and we spent some time throwing ideas back and forth. Classic rubber ducking. haha Through that, it gave me an idea of how I could get the information and then send it. Worked on that and after a few iterations, I was able to get it to work! I'll clean it up tomorrow but I have a better understanding of the feature and can now create a coding exercise and point out the things I ran into so that another person won't run into the same issues I did.

Personal : Pretty happy with how the order is coming along. I'm going to work on one part tomorrow and get it ready to ship this week while I work on the other parts. I've got other projects in the works at various stages of completion. Feels good to have all these things happening, just need more time. haha.

Got an email saying that the vinyl for this project got shipped, but I have no tracking number. Hope it will show up tomorrow. They said the order was completed like 2 weeks ago and I paid the balance that day. Not sure what took so long to get it shipped though. I just want to get them so I can start putting together everything for the release. I need to finish up the items that will come with it. I'll work on it while this current order is printing. There's a prototype I'm looking to get done this week also. I'm real close to figuring out how to encapsulate everything into one container. Got some stuff I ordered for these projects coming in tomorrow. The boulder is starting to move and I want to keep it rolling as long as I can. I'm out. Going to eat dinner and work on some 3D models for these projects.

Have a great night!

Day 1342 : Slow Tonight

liner notes:

Professional : Today flew by! I responded to some community questions. Finished up a training that I missed some modules when I went through it the first time at the conference I was working. I must have been really tired. So yeah, I did the training and dove head first in this next coding exercise. I've never really used this functionality of one of our products so I had to look though the documentation. The thing is that we don't have a sample application for this coding exercise so I need to do it from scratch and then create the coding exercise. Next thing I know, the day is over.

Personal : Last night, picked up the projects on Bandcamp and put together the start tracks for the radio show. I was also thinking through a new project that I could offer. Watched some videos and read some documentation on how to replace some parts in one of my machine and then I went to sleep.

During lunch, I replaced the parts in my machine. Because I watched the videos and read some documentation, I was able to get it done pretty quickly. After work, I initialized the machine. I printed a few test prints and a color didn't work properly. I ran all types of cleaning. It got better little by little. I replaced the ink for the color with a fresh new one. Still really didn't work. I sent a message to the company's support page and even posted to the community forum with some pictures I took. I read through some posts and saw some suggestions other folks had previously offered and tried those. Between that and the stuff replied to my post, I got the color to print properly, but I kept getting an issue with a design. I figured I would just print the design on a test 3D print. So I did that and it worked! The issue didn't appear. Glad that it seems to be working. I need it for the order I got. Speaking of the order, I think I have enough filament to fulfill it, but to make sure I signed up for a notification for the colors at the manufacturer's site because they are always out of stock! As I was packing up and leave the shed, I got the email that the colors I want are in stock! I turned back on my laptop and went to the page and for some reason, my computer restarted. Awesome. The laptop restarts, I go to the page again and put 10 of each color into my shopping cart. Great. Apparently I wasn't logged in and when I log in, my shopping cart is empty. Nice. I put in 10 of each color again, then the past shopping cart items where there so it was double. I remove the extras and try to check out. The site says that some orders are sold out! HUH?! I go back to the shopping cart and one of the colors went from 10 to 6. Sure, great let me order. So I finally get through the order process and get confirmation that my order is placed. I go back to the product page and sure enough, the color is out of stock. In less than like 5 minutes it sold out. I should have more than enough currently, but I would be cutting it close and this store stays out of stock for months. The good news is that I think I found a filament that came in today where the color comes really close to the one that just sold out. I may use that for the single pieces and the stock that I have for the ones that are multiple pieces because they need to match. Oh and while all this was happening I had Google Gemini doing some deep research on that project idea I had. So yeah, I'm starting my weekend off really late but I got stuff done which is great. Good thing I got the starter tracks picked out and I'm ahead on other work for the radio show. Going to finish that up soon. I'll probably end the night looking over the report Google Gemini created about the feasibility of my idea. Going to take it slow tonight. I'm out! Radio show on Saturday at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com and the study session on Sunday at https://untilit.works

Have a great night and weekend!

Day 1341 : OMG

liner notes:

Professional : Today was pretty good. Had our team meeting and spoke about some things coming up. After that, we had our greater DevRel team meeting. I did a recap of the event I went to last week with some results. I tested the coding exercise that I uploaded and processed yesterday. It loaded with no problem and the setup script worked. I had to make some changes to the actual sample application code to get it all working properly. There was only like 3 things I needed to modify. I edited the coding exercise files, uploaded them to get processed and that was it. Ended the day doing a couple of modules in a training that it looks like I missed.

Personal : Whew... I didn't get much done at all last night. I don't know if it was because I was tired or what, but I caught caught in a doom scroll session on social media. I was able to get all the social media posts created for the projects I'm picking up this week on Bandcamp. I also watched the 2 new episodes of Daredevil. Really good so far.

Need to pay my bills for the month. Going to actually purchase the projects on Bandcamp and put together the playlist for the radio show this week. I just got some inspiration for another product I can make. It's similar to something else I was working on and I want to see if Google Gemini can help me walk through my thought process to make sure it's viable. Almost fell down the rabbit hole again. OMG! haha Going to eat dinner and get started with my night. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the part replaced on my UV printer so I can get this job going..

Have a great night!

Day 1340 : Rocket Fuel

liner notes:

Professional : Before calling it a day yesterday, I looked at my calendar and saw that I had like 5 meetings back to back today. haha After the first one, I noticed that the one after disappeared from my calendar. Cool. I checked out the community channel and forwarded questions from a user to the relevant team. I think I knew the answers, but I wanted to double check. I continued my quest to do the dependency updates in a repo with a bunch of projects. Then it was time for my next meeting. That went pretty well. Then I noticed that the meeting after that was moved to another date. Cool. Went to work on the coding exercise that I started yesterday. Got pretty far. It helps that I was able to use a previous coding exercise I made as a starting point. I had lunch. Got back and continued updating dependencies. There was like over 300 yesterday and I was able to knock it down to just 2. I think I may need to find another library since the one there hasn't been updated in a while. Had my last meeting of the day concerning an online workshop that I'll be giving next week. Went pretty well. Spent the rest of the day finishing up the coding exercise and uploaded it so that it could be processed with the GitHub Action I put together. Going to test it out tomorrow. This morning I thought I would be in meetings all day and not get anything done.

Personal : Yesterday I did a bunch of test prints on different materials using my UV laser to see what I can achieve. I also worked on some social media posts for the radio show. I also got some measurements for a project I've been working on.

I've had the NASA live stream for the Artemis II in the background pretty much all day from when they were filling the ship with rocket fuel. When the rocket launched, I went outside and was totally looking in the wrong direction and when I turned around I only saw a trail of smoke. haha I picked the projects on Bandcamp that I'll be purchasing this week. I'll purchase them tomorrow, but I'll get the social media posts ready tonight. I want to watch a couple of videos on how to replace the print head of my UV printer so I can work on that tomorrow. I was able to take off the filament holder that looked like it was about to fall over and put it in another holder I printed that will sit it next to the printer instead of on top of it. Going to try and use it to print something tomorrow. Going to get to work and see if I can get done early so I can watch the 2 new episodes of Daredevil before calling it a night.

Have a great night!

liner notes:

Professional : Today I worked on creating another coding exercise. The way I have things set up, I can use another coding exercise that I created previously as a starting point for this new one. I think I'll be able to get it done tomorrow to have it reviewed and start another one. Spent some time getting caught up since I was gone pretty all last week. Also updated a bunch of stuff that GitHub was saying needed updating with some repos. Had a meeting with my manager and went through the list of things I wanted to discuss. I gave them links to check out the pull request for the new feature I added to the MCP servers and the coding exercise and workshop I created. I also found out that continued updating dependencies. It was also that last day to give points out to folks before the new quarter starts tomorrow. I also tried to finish up the expense report from my work trip, but I'm waiting for one charge to show up. I sent an email, so we'll see what they say. I also found out that a talk I submitted got accepted. Pretty productive day.

Personal : Whew what a ride that past few days since I've posted here it has been. I had a pretty successful trip to Dallas for work. Folks were happy with what I got done. I got sick when I got back. Some folks I sent some prototypes to last year placed an order. I did my radio show at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com . Did the study session at https://untilit.works where I set up the new UV laser I purchased. Then a random emergency popped up which kind of threw me for a loop. Luckily, looks like everything will work out.

Been doing some prep work to get this order started. Looks like I will need to use the UV printer I got which means I'll need to replace the print head. I know this because I tried to print something and it did not come out how it should even when running a cleaning cycle. I watched someone on YouTube do it and I don't think it'll be that bad. While I'm doing that, the machine said some other stuff needed to be replaced so I'll do that as well. In addition to that, I have been using the UV laser to print different material test arrays on different surfaces, like 3D prints and packaging that I'll be using for this order. I also have been working on another prototype for my co-host that I'll be able to finish up now that I have this UV laser. Also, I just got a notification that the tracking number from what I thought was a scam that had no updates for almost 2 months actually had an update that they got the package. We'll see. Not holding my breath. With my luck, it'll be a box of bricks or something. haha. Going to go through some tracks for the radio show and possibly work on sketching out a part for that prototype I mentioned, model it and print it tomorrow.

Have a great night!

Day 1338 : Hurricane

liner notes:

Professional : Whew... today was a hurricane of activity! haha Had a catch-up call with some team members. Right after that, I had a call with our "guild" (team members from different parts of the DevRel team that focus on a product from the company) members. I was able to demo the coding exercise that I created yesterday. I must have forgot to remove a reference to a library I removed at the last minute because when someone else tried to spin it up, they got an error. I was able to show the one I was working on and got to show the issue I was running into. It was suggested that I ask some folks in a certain Slack group. I did that and got a reply that fixed my issue. I fixed the library reference error from before, but I didn't fix the other issue yet. The reason being that I needed to create the workshop that I'll be walking folks through next week on my work trip. I'm basically making a more filled out coding exercise. My plan is to help folks set up a server and three demos that can showcase one of our products and show them how they can extend it for their hackathon project. The good news is that I already have the project fully set up in a GitHub repo and with the platform I've been working on, I can link to the repo and pull that into my coding exercise and have "starter" versions of the files I want to walk folks through and they can copy and paste in the parts I'll be explaining. The part that takes the most time is creating the steps for the tutorials. I'm almost done. I got one demo done and 2 left to go. They are all kind of similar, so the next 2 should get done quicker. Fingers Crossed haha

Personal : Last night, I laid out enough tracks for the radio show for like the next 5 shows! Pretty much all I got accomplished.

Currently, I've got 2 3D printers working on the adapters for the shelves wheels I've been working on. They take like 6 hours to print each! Got like another hour left. There's a connector I need to create. I only printed 2 of the 4 because I want to make sure they fit and measure the connector. I think I'll work on the workshop till the 2 finish printing and the connectors. I'll get up early tomorrow and print the other 2 adapters. I think I should be done with the workshop by then. Then I'm going to finish putting together the playlist for the radio show tomorrow and pack up for my trip. Speaking of my trip, there won't be any posts to this blog, but I will be keeping my travel site up to date: https://Dwane.in/vCon2026Dallas . As usual, I'll be doing the radio show on Saturday at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com , but no study session on Sunday because I'll be traveling. Hopefully there's no snags and it's smooth sailing. Finger crossed (again!) haha

Have a great weekend! Be safe!

Day 1337 : Lock It Down

liner notes:

Professional : Basically spent the day mostly in meetings. When I wasn't in meetings, I helped out with a community question and worked on integrating GraphiQL into a coding exercise I started working on yesterday. Ran into a couple of road blocks, but I was able to get everything working, but no data was showing up. I know I did everything right because I plugged the same query into another GraphiQL instance and got the same response, empty. I also know it's working because it pulled in the docs and schema. I made some changes and got it ready so I can show some folks tomorrow in a meeting so we can figure out what to do.

Personal : I bought the Bandcamp projects I picked out for this week. Also started putting together tracks for the radio show. I also set up the coding exercise that I continued working on the today.

Tonight, I think I'm going to set up the coding exercise that I want to use next week for my work trip. That way I can spend tomorrow fine-tuning it, make sure everything works and lock it down. First, I'm going to put together the track list for this week's radio show. I also modified the adapters for the shelves model and got some filament drying so I can get them printed tomorrow. If I have some time, I may start packing for the trip.

Have a great night!

Day 1336 : How Hard Can It Be?

liner notes:

Professional : Had a few meetings to day. In between, I added the code to edit and save previously created tutorials and tested it out. It worked! I just had to add some extra code that I added since creating those tutorials. Now I'll be able to create some coding exercises with these new features for some upcoming events. Going to focus on the rest of the week to knock these tutorials out. I've got like 3 to make and 2 days to do it. How hard can it be? haha I'm pretty happy with the platform that was made.

Personal : Last night I went through a bunch of tracks for the radio show. I may have over done it. haha.

The modification to the 3D model that I made to the shelves adapter and printed a part fit! I also printed an angled dovetail connection sized to the adapter and that also connected together. Going to finalize the model so I can print it out tomorrow. I'll probably also purchase the Bandcamp projects that I picked out. I already got the social media post completed. With the tracks, I'll be able to put together the tracklist for the radio show this week. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Have a great night!

Day 1335 : The Best

liner notes:

Professional : Actually had no meetings whatsoever today! Very unusual. Probably for the best, because it was so cold today that I just worked from my van. Took the opportunity to work on some features I wanted to add to the coding exercise platform I've been working on. I made is so that any new or old coding exercise will pull some files from a single source. That way, they always have the latest version and I don't have to keep updating each tutorial if I make an update. I also started working on the ability to edit and save a previously published coding exercise. It was a little more involved than what I initially thought, but I think I got it working. I'll be testing it tomorrow. I wanted to get these things out of the way because it will make creating the new tutorials I'll be working on this week a lot easier for me.

Personal : Last night, I went through Bandcamp projects for what I'll be picking up this week. I also went through a bunch of tracks for the radio show. Don't really remember what else I did.

I didn't get a chance to edit the adapter model for the shelves so I'll be working on that so I can get it printed tomorrow and get it fitting properly. I also want to work on the cross bar for the adapters to make it sturdier. I may use a dovetail joint for the connections. I'll also start putting together the playlist for the radio show. I should start packing for my upcoming work trip. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Day 1334 : Sea of Cloud

liner notes:

Saturday : This week, my co-host was able to make it to the show. Great times were had! The recording of this week's show is at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com

Sunday : Did the study session at https://untilit.works Got some stuff done. I was able to create a 3D model for the wheel adapter for some shelves. With the help of AI, I was able to work out the details for an item I was thinking about for a while.

Professional : Today was pretty good. Did some research on some stuff I plan on working on this week. Had a meeting with my manager and we talked about a lot of stuff. I had them go through the interactive tutorial I made last week to make sure it worked for them and was straight forward to follow and complete. They were able to get everything working on the first try. They gave me some feedback that could make it easier for folks to complete it. We also spoke about my upcoming work trip and what I planned on doing and got the go ahead. Had another meeting about building more coding exercises and got more clarity on what folks are looking for. I'm pretty set on what I need to do this week.

Personal : Today, it was rainy and windy. It looked like a sea of clouds with the wind blowing them so quickly. I got the adapter I designed printed for my shelves. Took like 4 hours! The screw holes that attach the heavy duty wheels to the adapter lined up great and fit. I just need to make the spacing for the shelves legs like .5mm to 1mm longer. I'm going to modify the model and only print a slice of the part that the legs will go into so that I can test the fit without have to reprint the whole adapter. Once that's done, I'm going to work on a cross piece that can connect the wheels on each side to hopefully add more strength and stability. Getting that done is a major item on my to do list because it is holding me up from getting the machines out the way so I can set up to work on these other projects.

Going to modify the 3D model of the adapter so that I can print it tomorrow. I want to go through some tracks for the radio show this week so I can stay ahead. I've been meaning to work on my business website and just bought another domain that I think will be easier to remember and spell if I say it out loud. I have what I want pretty much mapped out, I just need to collect everything and just get it done. Astro 6 just dropped so it might be a good time to see what new things there are that I may be able to include in this new site. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Have a great night!

liner notes:

Professional : Today is Friday the 13th and I felt every bit of it. haha Started the day catching up with a team member. It was good to talk with them. After that, I responded to a couple of community questions. One took a little while to respond to it because I wanted to double check I knew what I was talking about and was able to provide links to documentation and code examples. After that, I worked on the coding exercise that I started yesterday. It's technically more complex than the others I created this week. I got it running yesterday so I just needed to write the tutorial part. That's the more difficult part for me. Trying to guide a person that has never seen the code before to make it as straight forward as possible for them. Then it was time for a meeting about some upcoming coding exercises that I'll be building. After that, I went back to racking my brain on creating the tutorial. Next thing I know, I'm like an hour past end of the day. haha Time flew by today. At least I got the tutorial done and uploaded and got the link and posted it in the chat for other folks working with me to check it out.

Personal : Last night, I put in some extra time to finish up the pre radio show work. I just need to do the social media posts for a few tracks and I'll be totally finished. I also went through a bunch of tracks to keep my head start on future shows going.

Going to go and eat dinner and get to work. First, I want to finish up the last part to prep for the radio show. After that, I want to get the measurements of some parts so I can model a part for the adapter I want to 3D print for the shelves I built to hold more robust wheels. Those are my main focus for tonight. I'm super tired and may watch an anime or something that I've been meaning to catch up on and go to bed early. I'll probably end up working on a website or a 3D model, haha. Check the radio show on Saturdays at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com and the study session at https://untilit.works .

Have a great night and weekend!
