Kate Winslet's son wants her to win an EGOT

Over the course of her 25-year career, Kate Winslet has been nominated for just about every award you can imagine. In addition to her various Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and SAG Awards, she’s got an Oscar for The Reader, an Emmy for Mildred Pierce, and a Grammy — yes, a Grammy — for her 2000 spoken word album Listen to the Storyteller. (The category, Best Spoken Word Album for Children, no longer exists.)

This year, Steve Jobs marks her seventh Academy Award nomination, but if her 12-year-old son, Joe, has any say in her future career path, she could soon be heading to Broadway.

In an interview with Reuters, Winslet said her son “is just obsessed with records” and wants her to win a Tony so she can join the exclusive EGOT club. “So since he has learned about this EGOT thing, he’s like, ‘Mum you’ve gotta do it,’” Winslet said.

Only 12 individuals in history have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, including Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, and Whoopi Goldberg. Winslet discussed her EGOT aspirations with Jimmy Fallon in October, recounting how she didn’t even know she had won her Grammy until after the fact.

“Isn’t that weird? I was one of three people, along with Wynton Marsalis, who won Grammys for spoken word,” Winslet told Fallon. “It was a very long time ago. I think I was only 22 at the time, and someone kind of called me afterwards and said, ‘Hey! We all won Grammys!’ I was like, ‘What? What are you talking about?’”
