iPhone 13 Pro Max updated to 26.0.1 last night and now battery is unrecognized

As a result the phone only turns on and works for brief periods while plugged in. My apple care warranty expired 8 days ago, so I am at a loss about what to do.

The update obviously caused a battery issue - how do I get this fixed? Is the battery fried, or is this a software / version issue?
