Working on a fey land gone wrong scenario for Grimwild.

The Clockworks are encroaching on the Eldwoods, sidhe critters are fading or fleeing. What is the source of these cobbled-together mechanized atrocities and why does their very existence seem to drain the life from the fairy folk?

This is a crucible to feed the imagination for wild, weird, wicked, steampunk-esque mechanistic creatures encroaching on your fantasy landscape. Whether you borrow my anti-fey inspiration, or implant these critters into your landscape with reasons and mysteries of your own, this crucible is going to capture your intuition and imagination.

Inspiration: steampunk, The Tin Man, Tik-Tok/The  Mechanical Man, Saw Horse, The Iron Giant, Wheelers(?)…

v0.2 - added instructions on the page, and a duplicate page without the instructions.

Suggested Use

Roll d6 to randomly choose quality rows (between dashed lines), or pick from them. The row sections from top to bottom are: 1) Role (job); 2) Form the clockwork resembles or items it’s crafted from; 3) Action - how it does its role; 4) Engine - what actually (or seemingly) makes it tick; 5) Sight & Movement cues; 6) Sound, vibration and vibe cues.

Then pick what works for you, or roll d6 for a column, and d6 for which row within the column. Then use your imagination to fill in the gaps and experience the weird – or horror.

Example

Rolled 4-2-5. Fourth section on the chart, second column, fifth row: spring. Roll 2-3-6: furnishing. Spring + furnishing: I picture couches with their springs all "sprung" and using them to bounce about. What do you picture? I could go for a 3rd trait if desired.  5-3-2 = wallow. Coat trees that laze about in a pond in the springtime.

This is your world-oyster. Enjoy!
