November
I’ve been hard at work getting up to speed with the field of Computational Biology and everything that comes with that for the past several months. It was a slow start, but the dust has mostly been cleared out around my old knowledge of Biochem, Physics, etc. Just wrapped up writing my PhD research project proposal and have started applying to PhD programs in US and EU. Most of the hard work has been done, now I just need to do the harder part…waiting.

With Recurse Center(RC) coming to a close next week I thought it was high time for a quick update. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long long time. From start to end it was a positive environment that pushed me to grow and learn. I met so many kind and smart people! I learned so much and many things that I don’t think I’d have ever tried, would never had been exposed to, nor the space to learn without fear of failure. This all together is the real magic of RC. This is not the end, but the start of a new beginning as an RC Alumni, because as they say here, “Never Graduate!”.
I’ll be moving back home next week after a long time away. Incredibly happy to be able to see my spouse and other familiar faces and places again. Time to start figuring out my next step!

My year spent studying CS fundamentals has come and gone. It went pretty well. I’ll be continuing to dive into some of the unexplored areas and improving my weak spots moving forward. I am starting Recurse Center this month. I am simultaneously a bit trepidant and excited about going to back to the US and living in New York for a few months. It should be a great experience and chance to just focus on learning and growing.

My studying plan has been going pretty well so far this year! I’ve learnined and explored the C language, and dare I say have found myself liking it and wanting to work with it more in the future. It really is everywhere! I’m currently working on studying Assembly language (specifically RISC-V) and Operating Systems. It’s humbling and facinating to be able to better understand these machines which we all use and rely on every day. Lastly, I have been exploring the small web more and learning about how to use IRC to find people with shared interests. Lots of fun! :)
