Let's go magic! RPG
A downloadable RPG-System
Did you ever ask yourself, where all these fantasy-cults find these world-ending spells to cast?
They probably tried these rules.
I wanted to provide my Players with three things:
1) A way for the spellcaster, to actually be creative.
2) Some way, to cast powerful, long lasting spells.
3) A way to use all the Items they rip from and out of slayn enemies. during their down time.
1) This is how you cast a spell in this system:
Choose a spelllevel you can cast with your current Experience Level, Talent and Token (Manipulating Material is the cheapest, creating Space is the most expensive) Choose the Aspects of your spell: Range + Damage + Area + Duration + Accuracy
Spell Cost: Add the costs of all Aspects used → multiply by the Spell’s Level.
The more a spell costs compared to your max Mana, the longer it takes to cast.
2) If a spell is too costly for you to cast, performe a Ritual:
Each full day of ritual reduces the mana cost. After every full month (30 consecutive days), the remaining total cost is halved or one aspect’s power is doubled. Once reduced to an affordable level, you must pay the remaining MP and succeed an ability-check (easy difficulty+ 1 per week of ritual work) to activate the spell.
3) But what about the mountain of goblin ears, my players have?
Crafting Potions & Items
1. What You Need: Tools and Talent
2. The Recipe Formula: A basic recipe always starts with 3 suitable base ingredients. You can then add optional ingredients to enhance the item.
The Crafting Process: Collect Items you need to achive the product you want, the more items, the longer the process takes. After the time has passed, you must make a skill check to see if your work was successful. Normally, bonuses are additive. It is possible, though difficult, to create a multiplicative effect.
Magic Items Created through Incarnation: Cast an incarnation-spell (Incarnate, Matter, 4XP required). Then imprint a spell into an object: Cast the spell, using the Mana-Pool of the Item. Costs of the spell cannot surpass the Mana-Pool of the Item. Non-casters can use the item’s Mana. Permanent effects (e.g. auras) fully consume the pool permanently. Curses/Conditional Charges: You can choose to apply a specific action/condition to the item to charge its Mana-Pool and/or cast its spell automatically.
What about my fighter? They can't cast fireball!
They still get the mana-pool, their magic is just internal: They can become faster, catch arrows, behead enemies or manipulate them into giving up.
They also get cool special skills:
Costs (XP) | Special Skill |
1 | Enter dreams on touch (XP min/day). |
1 | When concentrating, sense living beings in a (2 * XP)m radius |
1 | Alwaya know where North is |
2 | Fly, swim, or burrow at run speed. |

I hope you like what you see and get something useful out of it.
Happy to hear your thoughts.
Greetings,
Bene
