Primitive Man is still the heaviest band I have ever heard, delivering low humming drones, great feedback instead of guitar solos, slow crushing paces, and lyrics reflecting the very real pains and hopelessness of being working poor under a neoliberal capitalist regime. But there is something more going on here. The feedback is at times controlled into droning notes and in the terrific production one can hear the complexity of composition. This is amazing. One of my AOTY for 2025.
Bought the full album off The Flenser's website. I loved their first album, but I love this one even more. The pacing and vocals are mesmerizing. The doom-y guitar tones are beautiful. The whole album is restrained and yet very powerful. This is my favorite of the slow goth doom genre since Fvnerals' 2023 Let The Earth Be Silent. And it's my favorite 2025 release in all genres (and 2025 has been an amazing year of music so far).
How does one describe this? "Sludgy blackened post-metal gaze" doesn't do justice to the variety and combination of sounds. Memorable riffs, incredible vocals, tight rhythm section, dynamic quiets and louds, and thoughtful words. Another way to describe it is one of the very best heavy albums of 2025.
I’m a fan of a lot of different sound genres and this is my favorite country/folk/Americana album in many moons. She sings stories of bittersweet sorrow, regret, and acceptance in a way that acknowledges our common humanity and connectedness.
Quiet and loud. Melodic clean singing and harsh growls from the same powerful woman vocalist, Romane. Heavy and tight post-black metal meets doom with reverbed gothic atmosphere. Beautiful, melancholy, and compelling.
Thank you for releasing this early—and right after the group listen! The softest harsh guitars and my favorite contemporary vocalist make for a great listen. I think the first and last four songs are some of the best Remina yet.
Loud, atmospheric, and overwhelming, yet perfectly recorded and produced. Doom, gloom, minor key tuning, and slow pace. Chelsea Wolfe-like vocals. Requiem for nature's (and thus humanity's) demise.
