Amenemhet III's "Black Pyramid" at Dahshur was made of millions of dark mud bricks and then cased in smooth limestone to appear like a traditional solid stone pyramid. Once the smooth limestone casing was stripped, the pyramid, battered by centuries of wind and the occasional downpour, weathered into the unusual shape we see today.
