Take on the role of a principled runner on a planet rich in resources but kept poor by the powers-that-be. Pilot a stolen skimmer made to haul cargo across the planet's surface, and skirt the unjust embargo to serve the material needs of your exploited community. Defy the haulers of the Capital ships scouring the planet’s surface, and deliver much-needed goods to their rightful place - the people!Your task won’t be easy - the skimmer is great at hauling, but your cargo remains unsecured and at the whims of the ship's G-forces. Careless piloting will see your copious bounty quickly ejected from the ship! And speaking of bounties... if the local haulers find anything on your ship during their scans, they’ll increase the bounty on your head, reducing the time before your near-inevitable fate at the hands of the Capital ships in orbit!

Made with love in 9 days for Godot Wild Jam #93! We had a blast working on this one. Would've love to get just a feeeeew more sounds in there (especially the scanner) but overall very happy with it! We hope you enjoy ^-^ 


UPDATE v1.1: Thank you for the positive response jammers  :D We decided to spend another few days implementing changes based on your feedback and features we planned but didn't get to during the jam:
 - Implemented audio for the ship, environment, and UI
 - Each resource is now found in its own unique area (check Tips below for details)
 - Map now randomises on each playthrough to change things up
 - Added invulnerability for a few seconds after taking damage
 - Due to popular demand, you can now outrun the hauler scanners!
 - Capital ship now actually shows up if you run out of time ;)
 - Many little bug fixes (let us know if you find any others!)


Controls:

Movement

Use W + S to throttle your skimmer forwards and backwards
Use A + D to rotate your skimmer left and right
Hold Shift to activate your boost

Interactions

Hold Space Bar to open the cargo bay doors and transfer resources between your ship and the planet surface

Use Left Click to move resources around your cargo hold, hold them in place while the doors are open, and to click Station icons on the map

Brief Guide:

The goal in BLOCAID is to supply every Station with enough resources to build your COMMUNITY meter to maximum! And if not, at least try to rack up the highest bounty score you possibly can before you go out ;)

BLOCAID has 2 screen segments - the map (left) where you steer your ship across the planet, and the cargo screen (right) where your cargo hold is displayed. Opening the cargo doors allows you to pick up resources as you fly over them, but resources already in your inventory can also drop out! You can click + hold a resource to prevent it flying out while the doors are open.

The 4 blue icons on the map edge point to Stations. Click on the icons to find out which resource they need, then  drop resources within the circular radius of a Station to deliver them. Stations will eagerly accept any supplies they can get their hands on, so careful not to drop anything you need for later!

Patrolling haulers will scan your cargo hold if they get close enough, indicated by a yellow grid - if they detect anything, your bounty increases signficantly! Dragging resources around the cargo hold is vital avoiding scans.

Tips:

  • You can Boost for as long as you want, but you cannot turn so make sure you have a clear path
  • Your ship's momentum will throw your cargo around! This can be a great way to avoid a scan, or quickly unload items.
  • When dragging an item, it can interact with the other items in your hanger. You can use this to your advantage to quickly move cargo!
  • When you collide with a wall, your hanger doors may open briefly!
  • Check in with the Stations regularly to see if it might be worth grabbing extra supplies on the way!
  • The more items detected in a scan, the greater the increase in your bounty
  • Each resource can be found in a specific area:
    • Ores are found in the wilderness between and around Stations
    • Pipes are found in the square yards surrounded by blue containers
    • Crates are carried by trucks in the green hexagonal launchpad areas
